Noting that they prevented the release of 780 million tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere with the insulation products they produced, İzocam General Director Murat Savcı emphasized that effective energy saving is only possible with insulation.
İzocam was founded 59 years ago to develop environmentally-friendly and sustainable insulation solutions that provide energy saving and comfort without harming natural resources, taking into account the safety of life and property. Stating that as a company that plays a leading role in the foundation and development of the insulation sector in our country, they give priority to raising public awareness in the context of insulation, energy saving and environmental protection, İzocam General Director Murat Savcı said: “The world's energy resources are gradually depleting, and greenhouse gases are increasing day by day, triggering global warming and disrupting the balance of nature. For a more livable world in the future, it is necessary to reduce energy use and use existing resources much more efficiently. Effective energy saving is only possible with insulation. We state on every platform that with the right insulation applications, energy costs and thus carbon emissions will decrease significantly. According to our calculations, we have prevented the release of 780 million tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere with the insulation products we have produced since the day we were founded.”
Stating that, as İzocam, they see sustainability as a very important opportunity for the protection of the world, Mr. Savcı said: “We take care to implement our company policies in line with sustainability and in the most accurate way. Within the framework of our sustainability policy, in addition to developing our products by considering the environment and human health, we also care about the compliance of our facilities with environmental conditions and direct our investments to ensure that our facilities operate with minimum environmental impact.”
“Developing environmentally-friendly products alone is not enough”
Stating that they focus on sustainability in all processes from production to the content of their products, from packaging to sales, İzocam General Director Murat Savcı said: “We attach importance to carrying out awareness-raising projects in the said context. Although developing environmentally-friendly products is very important for sustainability, it is not enough on its own. It is also important to introduce the contribution of the products to the user and raise awareness in this regard. We act with this awareness in our environmentally-friendly investments.
As İzocam, we aim to be carbon neutral by 2050. We direct our work to realize this long-term goal. We discuss in detail many projects that will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, limit water consumption and wastewater generation, adapt alternative raw material sources to production processes, and contribute to the circular economy, in order to achieve our 2030 and 2050 sustainability targets. In this context, as İzocam, we have launched our investment plans aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 33% by 2030, and continue to carry out our periodically updated works.” Mr. Savcı explained the investments and projects they implemented in this context with the following words:
“Recently, we invested in a fue gas filter at our Tarsus Facility within the scope of our Environment, Occupational Health and Safety projects. We aimed to reach world-class air emission values with this environmentally-friendly technological investment we made to ensure that our facility operates in the most compatible way with environmental conditions. With this investment, we have reached levels of approximately 1/3 of the maximum value of 150 mg/Nm3, which is required by the authorities not to be exceeded.
We have made great progress towards our goal of making our facilities environmentally-friendly by obtaining the Basic Level Zero Waste Certificate issued by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization of the Republic of Turkey for all our facilities. The Basic Level Zero Waste Certificate indicates that our facilities have completed a series of processes, including preventing waste at the basic level, using resources more efficiently, preventing or minimizing waste generation by taking into account the sources of waste generation and, if waste is generated, sorting it at the source and ensuring its recycling.
Within the framework of our goal of reducing both carbon emissions and energy costs, we have implemented recycling efficiency projects by establishing energy monitoring systems in our stone wool and glass wool production facilities. Additionally, within the framework of reducing energy use, we replaced the lighting luminaries with environmentally-friendly ones in all our facilities. With the improvements in our needle-type glass wool products designed for oven manufacturers, we have reduced our emission levels well below European standards.
In line with our commitments in the field of sustainability, we continue our waste reduction and energy saving projects this year, including projects to reduce furnace-related energy consumption, considering our use of high-temperature furnaces, as well as projects to increase compressor efficiency. In addition, we have achieved very good results within the scope of our project to completely eliminate the waste going to the waste collection area. We achieved a 92% waste reduction level, far exceeding the 72% waste reduction target we set for 2030.
Within the scope of our sustainability goal, we carry out many projects to reduce the amount of water used in our facilities. We aimed to save 34 thousand cubic meters of discharged water annually with the project we recently carried out in our Tarsus facility, which envisages the recovery of wastewater using the Reverse Osmosis method. With the efficient use of water resources and operational excellence projects, we have achieved 23% savings in water usage since the day we started sustainability projects in our facilities.”
“Our packaging contains at least 50 percent recyclable materials”
Reminding that they renewed the design of their product packaging to emphasize their contribution to the global Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations, İzocam General Director Murat Savcı continued his words as follows: “We achieved environmentally-friendly packaging by using less paint and plastic in the production of the packaging and rearranging the sizes and quantities of the packaging. Now we have taken this one step further and started shipping our products with our new packaging containing at least 50% recyclable materials. In the future, we will continue to set an example and be a pioneer with both our environmentally-friendly investments and our sustainable and environmentally-friendly products.”
