The first stage of the 20th Edition of Saint-Gobain Student Contest which is held with the motto "Sprout Life with Your Design" has been concluded and the finalists are determined. The winner of the contest in Turkey is to compete internationally in Paris.
The first stage of the Student Contest which İzocam holds every year with a different theme as part of its social responsibility efforts has been concluded and the jury has selected 5 finalists for the Turkish finals from the projects submitted by 90 students from 25 various universities.
This year marks the 20th edition of the contest to which all Saint-Gobain companies operating in the building materials industry contribute. The theme of this year´s contest, which is held by Saint-Gobain in 35 countries around the world and by İzocam, Saint-Gobain Rigips and Saint-Gobain Weber in Turkey, is "to sprout life" in a Parisian neighbourhood.
The university students participating in the student contest will create designs to turn the Parisian industrial zone of Saint Denis into green spaces and areas of learning and recreation that meet modern-day needs. In the first stage of the contest, students were expected to come up with a vision for the concept "sprout life with your design", to design green spaces and areas of learning and recreation that meet modern-day needs and preserve the legacy of Saint Denis, and to turn these ideas into concept designs. 5 projects selected among the 19 projects that completed this stage will compete in the national finale.
The finalists are as follows;
Burak Aydın from Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University; team Elif Şencal from Ankara Gazi University; team Gizem Çalışkan and Ayça Özüm Sevinç from İzmir University of Economics; Baran Yıldız from Istanbul Technical University; Doğan Elen from Gebze Technical University and team Ayşenur Çetin, Pelin Çatıkkaya from Kadir Has University.
The 5 finalist projects will be submitted by April 15 and the participants will compete for the first place by presenting their projects to the jury on April 18. While the top three teams in the national contest will be rewarded TL 10,000, TL 7,500 and TL 5,000 respectively, they will earn the right to represent our country and compete for the international prize pool at the international finale to be held in Paris on June 3-6 2020. Project submission deadline for the international stage is April 30.
The prizes for the international stage of the contest are as follows: € 1,500 for first place, € 1,000 for second place, € 750 for third place, € 500 in special prizes and student prizes. The jury consists of Prof Abdurrahman Kılıç, Faculty Member at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of ITU, Master Architect Ali Erkan Şahmalı, General Manager at Günarda Proje Yönetimi, Master Architect Mimar Durmuş Dilekçi, Founder at Dilekçi Mimarlık, Assoc. Prof Gülten Manioğlu, Faculty Member at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of ITU, Master Architect Hakan Demirel, Founding-Partner at Suyabatmaz Demirel Mimarlık, and Prof Mehmet Çalışkan, Faculty Member at the Faculty of Engineering of METU.
